Order Ov Riven Cathedrals - "Göbekli Tepe"

The Italian Death Metal scene manifested itself on my radar the exact moment I heard Hour Of Penance - a band that just released a fine album in the form of "Misotheism" - and since then I've discovered close to a plethora of good to excellent Italian bands doing extreme music.

Lucky me.

Order Ov Riven Cathedrals is a two-piece with names unbeknownst to The Metal Archives; unless, that is, En Sabah Nur and 12 are Italian names as good as any. A name researcher I am not, thank fuck, but from now on I'll abbreviate this duo's name to OORC.

I'm lazy.

En Sagah Nur and Mr. 12, however, aren't lazy at all, for they have released no less than three full-lengths in as many years. I can't speak for all of their output, I've only dug into "Göbekli Tepe", but I will say that this album is an absolute blast.

Roughly put, OORC sounds like when Emperor met Nile on this one.

Deivos - "Gospel Of Maggots"

The number of excellent Death Metal bands from Poland is impressive and Deivos started adding to this tally back in 1997. Since 22 years ago they have released 5 full-length albums, the 6th is just around the corner, and changed all members except for Tomasz Kołcoń.

Mr. Kołcoń is the only founding member left, and a mighty fine riffmeister he is, but the centerpiece of this band goes by the name Krzysztof Saran. You have to really hate cowbells to not appreciate Mr. Saran's intense and expertly performed style of drumming. I don't, but you might, so be aware of the cowbell.

Ding!

"Gospel Of Maggots" is Death Metal through and through, this album has no crossover appeal, and I can appreciate that. A narrow-minded approach isn't always best, I love a band like Enslaved for instance, but in this case it is.

To put it short: "Gospel Of Maggots" is one of the finest blastfests I've ever heard.

Kurwa!

Severe Kickdrums

Severe Torture is a great name if Death Metal is what you do and Severe Torture has been doing exactly that since 1997 or so. From The Hollands they hail and The Dutch have built up a rich tradition of sailing under the flag of Death Metal by now.

Pestilence, Asphyx, Gorefest, Hail Of Bullets, and I could namedrop many more.

"Fall Of The Despised" offers vocals from the depths of Hades, inspired riffing, actual songwriting, an audible bass well worth its place in the mix, and an excellent drummer putting in a fine performance. His fine performance is, however, marred by the fact that the kick drums sound like manure.

Both of them.

That's quite sad, I hate when kick drums sound like wet farts, but apart from that severe nagger "Fall Of The Despised" comes recommended if Death Metal is your thing.
